To take a fine bronze sculpture and apply heavily lead based paint to accentuate the form and design of the work first became a recognised skill in 19th century Vienna. At that time there were some fifty manufacturers producing bronzes for the bourgeois, and their work was highly regarded and collected as the ultimate luxury.
Over the years the skill of hand painting bronze was largely lost, as fashion lead the wealthy in alternative directions to showcase their affluence.
This ancient craft has been re-created by our artists to illustrate how the skills so regarded hundreds of years ago can be explored today. Of course, the use of lead in paint has been identified as a serious health hazard, meaning our artists have to develop alternatives which give a similar effect safely.
We believe, in this beautiful collection, we have combined the sculpting skills of our acclaimed modellers, with the hand painting technique of the artist, to produce unusual and colourful designs bringing to life the work of the Bronzesmith.
